Old House Exterior Makeover

Welcome to the latest installment of our Old House Renovation series! This time, in this episode titled ‘Old House Renovation Episode 3 – Restoring the Exterior of 1900s Colonial Revival,’ we’re embarking on a major journey to restore this age-old gem to its original splendor. As Spring ushers in warmer weather, we dive into exterior renovations. Join us as we carefully renovate the home’s front and side porches, Victorian columns, and wrought iron porch railings. We’re also installing new concrete pathways leading from the porches to the street and regrading the yard to ensure efficient water drainage. Our makeover journey concludes with siding repairs and new windows to give the old house a fresh, revitalized look.

Installing a five-vehicle blacktop parking lot driveway.

While street parking is available, our duplex will need parking on the property. At one time, there was a garage located by the alleyway. All that remains is a cracked concrete pad and remnants of the limestone foundation. Over one thousand square feet of blacktop was installed. This created a parking area large enough to accommodate five cars or an RV motorhome. Over one thousand square feet of blacktop was installed. This created a parking area large enough to accommodate five cars or an RV motorhome. We started by removing the old concrete pad and limestone foundation. Once the concrete and limestone were removed, gravel was added as a foundation base. This deep base of gravel was packed and sloped in preparation for the blacktop. Now that the parking lot has been completed, it’s time to move on to the porches.
