What are Lath and Plaster Walls?

Lath and plaster walls have a rich history and offer unique benefits, such as durability and sound insulation. Still, they also come with challenges, including labor-intensive installation and maintenance. Understanding the characteristics of lath and plaster walls and their removal process is crucial for homeowners and contractors working with historic or older buildings.

Installing a five-vehicle blacktop parking lot driveway

Our old house, which has the benefit of available street parking, needed an on-site parking solution. The property once housed a garage near the alley, leaving behind only a cracked concrete pad and the remnants of a limestone foundation. Recognizing the need for ample parking space, we embarked on installing a five-vehicle blacktop paving parking lot. Covering over one thousand square feet, this installation accommodates five cars and provides ample space for an RV motorhome, enhancing the functionality and appeal of our property.

Bathroom remodel before and after

1900s bathroom remodel before and after

We embarked on an ambitious project to renovate a stately Colonial Revival house built in 1900. One room that needed to be remodeled was the bathroom. The previous owner replaced the original bathroom many years ago. However, the bathroom had a basic design and has become dated. This article will guide you through the bathroom metamorphosis. We created a modern bathroom with luxuries and amenities you’d expect at a pricey hotel while adding Victorian design elements. When people see the photos of our new bathroom, they describe it as stunning and gorgeous.

Staircase Renovation: Before and After

We renovated a staircase in our 1900 Colonial Revival-style house. Before starting, we removed the lath and plaster walls and ceilings to run modern electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. However, all original woodwork, such as the staircase, will be saved and rejuvenated. We also saved all hardware from vents, doors, and windows. The stairs had been stained with a dark color but is showing a lot of wear and tear. We made a video of the staircase renovation before and after.

In this video, you’ll see step-by-step how we preserve the charm and character of the past while integrating today’s design essentials.

Are you remodeling an old house? We are, and the walls are lath and plaster. To upgrade the electrical and plumbing, we have to remove the lath and plaster from some walls and ceilings. We are renovating our 123-year-old house. We decided to use spray foam insulation. What is spray foam insulation, and is it worth the money? Spray foam insulation is an insulation material applied using a spray gun. It is made by mixing two chemical components: polyol resin and isocyanate. These chemicals react when combined. The reaction result is a foam that fills gaps, hardens, and creates an effective thermal barrier.

What is a ductless mini split heating and cooling system?

A ductless mini split heating and cooling system is an HVAC system that does not require traditional ductwork to distribute conditioned air throughout a building. Instead, it consists of an outdoor unit, which houses the compressor and condenser, and one or more indoor units, which are mounted on walls or ceilings and deliver heated or cooled air directly into the living spaces. These indoor and outdoor units are connected by a conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain. Ductless mini splits are known for their compact size and flexibility in zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms.
